There is nothing like opening day!! Dave and I had been scouting all spring and thought we had everything figured out for opening day, so we thought. Anytime you throw a camera into the mix things don’t always go according to plan! When daylight broke the gobbler was right where we put him to bed the evening before. However, when it started breaking day, the area we had to set up in was a little questionable for filming purposes. But at this point is was too late to move. A few soft tree yelps and the gobbler flew down and was on his way. As the camera man I let Dave know I was on him, he said he could not see him and we could not get the camera man and shooter on the gobbler at the same time so our gobbler walked off into the hardwoods! You have heard the saying “Roosted is not Roasted”. Close call for sure but it was still early on opening day so off we went trying to strike up another bird. Fast forward several hours and still no luck finding a cooperative gobbler. By now it is HOT, and we have walked miles with all our gear and time was running out fast. We headed over to a different farm and hoped we could fire one up. You know the anticipation of that first call hoping, no praying you hear a gobble. There he is!!! Dave and I scrambled to get set up and get the decoys out and began to call. The issue was he was on the other side of a deep hollow and we were not sure if he would commit to coming across to us. With time running out fast the gobbler finally committed and headed our way. Dave spotted him and I got the camera on him and the rest is history!! We hope you enjoy the hunt!
