Bull down! Eddie and I set out on mules into the backcountry in search of a big bull elk on this late season elk hunt, with a tag in my pocket here in AZ on public land. Saddling the mules and riding in miles up the trail, we found a good place to camp in the forest. We got camp set up just in time as the weather rolled in fast. Nothing like waking up to 2 inches of snow on the opening day of a hunt! We hunted for a few days just glassing big canyons and riding the mules into new locations trying to turn up some elk. We didn't find any bachelor herds of bulls, cows... nothing. Not a single elk! So, we decided to pack everything up and move locations. We rode out and went to check out an entirely new area; glassing and scouting our way into a place we've located bulls in the past. We hiked into a new canyon and set up the binoculars. Within minutes Eddie turns up a bull in his bed. Seeing he was a decent bull and with only a few days left to hunt, I decide to take him. 407 yards with the 28 Nosler and I sealed the deal on this beautiful bull. The pack out was rugged and steep with how icy and slick it was after the storm, but we got it done. Grateful for the opportunity to hunt another big bull elk in God's Country!
