On this week's episode of Midwest Whitetail, we begin by acknowledging the reason why we celebrate Memorial Day. Forever we will be indebted to our brave heroes who paid the ultimate price for us to live free. Our main goal of this week's episode is to bring attention to a startling issue that arose a few weeks back when tracking the budget bill titled "One Big Beautiful Bill Act." Added in the cover of darkness, lawmakers added an amendment to the the bill that would have sold off public lands in Nevada and Utah bypassing longstanding precedent and process to allow for the sale of public lands. If passed, this could and would have set a startling precedent for future sales of public lands but fortunately it didn't. Thanks to representatives like Ryan Zinke, Troy Downing, and Mike Simpson along with thousands of sportsman across the country the amendment was stripped from the bill. This sparked the discussion with Sam Soholt, a longtime public land and outdoors advocate who interned with Midwest Whitetail back in 2011. Sam does a great job explaining what fueled his mission for public land advocacy, provides a comprehensive overview of the organizations to follow today to stay informed, and explains why this should matter to every hunter, fisherman, and outdoor enthusiast alike. More than ever, the actions of today matter and we hope this video helps you find a good starting point to get involved.
